Priddy Library Coming Together! The Arts in Maryland Art Exhibit and Show
Description
This exhibition is part of the Universities at Shady Grove's ongoing dialogue with their Maryland community. This sample of Maryland art compromises 38 artists. These artists are representative of the students who attend the Universities and of the community as a whole. Many of them are foreign-born. They bring with them a multicultural perceptive as well as an international outlook. Each of the works in this exhibition is an expression of the artist's dreams, experiences, culture and skill. The works are all contemporary. The art is diverse, running the gamut from traditional figurative Western Art to culture-bound representations, abstraction, political art, Chinese painting and calligraphy, animal portraits and muralismo. We have works in oil/acrylic on canvas, watercolors, pencil drawings, ink, gouache, screen-printing and mixed media. The diversity of the works ensures an enriching journey. It is an adventure in color, shape, form and line. There is a unity of talent, a passion for art. There is poetry and strength. Some of the works eleicit tension between the image and the viewer and invite a deeper exploration of what the artist has to say. Others simply are. We invite you to be part of the dialogue.
