1915-1916: Results

From 1915 through 1916, Armenians were deported under the guise of "resettlement programs" and sent on death marches through the desert. Their groups were often attacked by bands of fighters paid by the Turkish government.

No provision was made for food or water; starvation, exposure, and exhaustion were responsible for many of the deaths. Armenians were also massacred and dumped in mass graves. It is estimated that over 1.5 million Armenians died, or approximately 2/3-3/4 of the pre-genocide population.

By 1916: Aftermath

Many of Armenians that survived the genocide fled to Greece, Russia, America, Argentina, and other surrounding areas as refugees. Significant Armenian populations still live in many of these countries today
