1896: The Supreme Court case Plessy v. Ferguson affirms racial segregation
1909: The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is founded
1948: The armed forces of the United States are desegregated under Executive Order 9981.
1954: In Brown v. Board of Education, the Supreme Court rules segregation in educational facilities to be unconstitutional
1963: The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom calls for stronger civil rights legislation
1968: The Pleasant View Church integrates with the Hunting Hill and McDonald Chapel Methodist Episcopal Churches to form the Fairhaven Methodist Church
1968: Martin Luther King Jr. is assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee
1992: The acquittal of the police officers who beat Rodney King spark race riots in Los Angeles
2016: Today The Pleasant View church continues to serve as a place of worship, though for other congregations. It is owned by the Pleasant View Historic Association
