Sur 13

Sur 13 was founded in the late 1960’s, early 1970’s in Southern California. This gang is loosely aliated with other “Southern” California gangs who pay tribute to the Mexican Mafia, a powerful prison gang that was founded in California. In the 1960’s a cultural struggle initiated in California between some Southern California Latino’s and some Northern California Latino’s, particularly in the California penal system. A faction of Northern Californian Hispanics, known as Norteños, view themselves as steeped in traditional Hispanic culture and view many Southern Californian Hispanics as “too Americanized.” Conversely, a faction of Southern Californian Hispanics, known as Sureños, views the Norteños as “peasants and common laborers.” Sur 13 and other gangs associated with them were founded to rival Norteño gangs, particularly La Nuestra Familia, another California prison gang. The gang and its associates primarily identify with blue and white, the colors of the El Salvador Flag.

Lincoln Park Crew

The Lincoln Park Crew formulated in the 1990’s in Rockville, Maryland, in a neighborhood that is similarly named. The vast majority of its members come from the same neighborhood. There is no known affiliation with any national gangs. Many gangs throughout the U.S. adopt names that reflect the community they reside and the LPC is no different.

UBN

United Blood Nation (UBN) formed in the 1990’s at the Riker’s Island Correctional Facility in New York. The gang was formed to protect themselves from members of the Ñetas and Latin Kings gangs. The UBN is one of the largest gangs in New York City. While they are considered Blood gang members generally, the UBN is not to be confused with the Blood sets that originated in L.A. in the 1970’s. The UBN is primarily located on the East Coast and now have a massive street presence. Their colors are primarily red.
