Bloods

The Bloods formulated in the early 1970’s in L.A. Members of the Crips attacked a few youths on Piru  Street in L.A. in 1972. As a result, these youths formed the Bloods on Piru Street primarily to protect themselves from the Crips. The Bloods, though less in numbers, compete with the Crips in L.A. and other areas of the United States. The Bloods who originated on the West Coast are not to be confused with members of the United Blood Nation who formulated on the East Coast (though  both refer to themselves simply as “Bloods”). Their colors are primarily red.

Pagans

The Pagans formed as a social motorcycle club in the late 1950’s, early 1960’s by a former National Institute of Health scientist in Prince George’s County, Maryland. They eventually morphed into an outlaw motorcycle gang, evidenced by the “1% patch” that they wear on their cuts (over vests). The American Motorcycle Association stated that 99% of all riders are law-abiding; the Pagans claim not to be part of that that percentage.

Latin Kings

The Latin Kings formed in Chicago in the 1940’s. Members of the Latin Kings are predominately of Puerto Rican descent. Original members state that they formed to overcome racial prejudice and bias, as well as to promote Puerto Rican unification.  The gang has expanded to other areas of the United States and is primarily concentrated in Chicago, New York and Connecticut. Unlike many other street gangs, the Latin Kings, which are also known as the Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation, possess an organizational structure. Their colors are primarily black and gold.
